Divest T&W Local Election Responses
Five of the local authority area members of Tyne & Wear Pension Fund held elections in May 2022. The pension fund invests more than Β£230 million in fossil fuels and has recently adopted a climate policy that means it is unlikely to end such investment until 2050.
All five councils - Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland - have declared a climate emergency and set targets to achieve either carbon neutral or net zero emissions by 2030.
We asked them about their approach to divestment - read their responses here
CAST COP26 public consultation report

On 30th March 2022, we submitted the CAST COP26 public consultation report to Jonathan Tew (Chief Executive Officer, South Tyneside Council) and his colleagues in the Regenerationand Environment Department.

COMING SOON: community-owned wind turbine project!
Energy poverty is a huge worry for all of us. But what if there was a way to be involved in a co-operative wind turbine project to bring benefits beyond simply energy production? The environmental positives aside, the promotion of community ownership and involvement can grow community cohesion and wealth, with members of the co-operative receiving an annual payment and the wider area benefiting from a βcommunity fundβ as the capital generated being invested into further local projects.
More about our new project available soon.
